4 of the Most Common iPhone Problems and How to Fix Them

There’s no arguing with the fact that the iPhone is one of the most popular devices in the world. The influence of this slim piece of tech is wide-ranging and hard to avoid. There’s a good chance you’re reading this article on one right now.

That doesn’t mean the iPhone isn’t without its drawbacks, however. There are a number of common iPhone problems that many users run into. These issues can be frustrating to manage and can interrupt the flow of your day.

What are some of the more common issues and how can you resolve them if you’re facing them yourself? Read on and we’ll walk you through everything you need to know.

1. Your Phone Gets Wet

As well all know quite well, electronics and water are not really supposed to mix. That doesn’t stop an iPhone from getting wet every now and again, whether you accidentally drop it in the toilet or leave it out on the porch on a rainy day.

If your iPhone becomes fully submerged in water, there’s a good chance that it might be broken, even if you have a great case on it. You shouldn’t give up hope right away though, there are still things you can do to try and resolve the issue. And the best option would be to contact a professional to get your phone screen repaired properly at an affordable price.

First and foremost, if the phone is off, do not try and turn it on. Turning on a phone after it has gotten very wet could very well short circuit it. Keep it off for as long as you can.

The first action you should try is to remove all excess water from the phone. Wipe it away with a paper towel and get the whole thing as dry as possible. This will prevent further damage from being done, though you’ll need to do this quickly.

Next, you’re going to want to put the phone into a bowl of rice. This is may sound absurd if you haven’t heard of this technique before, but it really works. Rice is massively absorbent and has the ability to suck water up and out of your phone.

You’ll want to leave your phone in rice for a full twenty-four hours. Only after this amount of time has passed should you try to turn it on and see what happens. Hopefully, you’ll see that familiar Apple logo appear and be saved.

If you’re still not having any luck, you may need to bring it in to be looked at.

2. Freezing or Unresponsive Applications

It’s easy to forget that your phone is nothing more than a little computer in your hand. Just like any computer, it can run into issues and freeze up.

You’ll most commonly see this when launching or using an application. All of the sudden, all of the options are frozen and you can’t do anything. Irritating!

There are a variety of reasons why this occurs. Your iOS might not be up to date and thus does not support the app you’re trying to use. Your phone could simply be running too many programs at once and is struggling to keep up with all your actions.

If you run into a frozen application, it can be helpful to close out of the application and restart your device completely. Check the application again. Often, this helps to reset your phone, and the application all of a sudden works with no issues.

Is another technique worth trying? Uninstalling and reinstalling an application from the app store. Sometimes a download doesn’t proceed as it should, meaning an app doesn’t get installed right on your phone.

Starting the installation fresh can give your phone a second chance and allows you to potentially resolve the issue at hand.

3. Proximity Sensor Not Working

When you hold up your phone to your ear to make a call, your device is intended to be able to judge this distance and turn the screen off. If your phone screen is still on up against your ear (leaving you open to hitting buttons with your ear lobe) then there might be an issue with your proximity sensor.

A faulty proximity sensor can be an irritating issue. There’s a chance it could be caused by a manufacturing defect, an issue in the way the phone was constructed. It could also be a software malfunction related to the programming that controls your screen.

Restarting your phone is always a smart first step to take. If the issue is related to software, sometimes a hard reset is all you need to set things straight. If you’re still experiencing the issue, the problem may be deeper-rooted than you’d prefer.

Taking your phone into a cell phone repair shop and demonstrating the issue may be a good idea. They can help you to determine what the actual cause is and thus what steps might be needed to fix it.

4. Speaker Not Working

What do you do if you can’t hear the sound out of your iPhone? This is one of the main reasons you have the device, to begin with, so it can be frustrating.

First, make sure the device isn’t on silent mode, which would mute your speaker. Make sure your volume is turned up. Turn your Bluetooth off to ensure the sound isn’t coming out of some other source that you might be connected to.

Closeout of any applications that might be attempting to play sound. If none of this works, go ahead and restart your device and see if that resolves the issue.

If none of these methods work, the problem could be a malfunction in the hardware. That might mean you need to have something replaced.
